There is not much time left until our lecture series with the title Das Andere Eigenen im – Das Eigene im Anderen: About the Problems and Chances of Migration will start. In the following, we would like to introduce you to our guest lecturers.
Our lecture series will start with a presentation given by Ms Jacinta Edusei, a KAAD scholarship holder at Chemnitz University of Technology. Ms Edusei did her bachelor’s degree in English and French at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi from 2003 to 2008. After doing a proficiency upgrade at the Benin Centre for Foreign Languages (CEBELAE) in Cotonou, Benin (2006-2007), Ms Edusei worked as a teaching assistant at the Department of Modern Languages, KNUST, Kumasi (2008-2009). In February 2012, she received her master’s degree in French Linguistics and since 2009 Ms Edusei has been working as a part-timer lecturer at Alliance Française in Kumasi. Currently, she spends three years at Chemnitz University of Technology on a KAAD scholarship as a PhD student.
Her research focuses on topics such as Textual Analysis, Communication Skills, Language and Culture, and Academic Writing and Pragmatics.
Ms Jacinta Edusei offered to support our lecture series by giving a presentation on the topic Sociolinguistic and Cultural Implications of Migration in Ghana (Ashanti region) on October 30. This lecture will be given in English.
The second guest lecturer who will give a presentation in the frame of our lecture series is Prof. Dr. Joachim Schwend from the University of Leipzig.
After his study at the University of Mainz, Prof. Dr. Schwend did his PhD in 1984 and in 1992 he wrote his habilitation dissertation at the University of Mainz Since 2000, Prof. Dr. Schwend has been working as a professor for Cultural Studies of Great Britain at the Department of English Studies at the University of Leipzig.
His research focuses on topics such as Regionalism in the British Isles, the United Kingdom and its Increasing Integration into Europe as well as Cultures of Remembrance and Processes of Identification.
Prof. Dr. Schwend will support our lecture series with a presentation on the topic Transatlantische Migration – Kulturtransfer in der Literatur on November 6. This lecture will be in given in German that is why we provided only a German title.
Another guest lecturer we were able to win over our lecture series is Samuel Ngwa Atechi, a research associate funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Mr. Atechi earned his BA and MA degrees in English from the University of Yaoundé I in Cameroon and he did his PhD in English at Chemnitz University of Technology. After he earned his PhD, Mr. Atechi returned to Cameroon, where he worked as a teacher for English as a Second and Foreign Language at the University of Yaoundé I and the University of Yaoundé II.
Since January 2013, Mr. Atechi has been working as a research associate in the Department of English Language and Linguistics at Chemnitz University of Technology, where his research focuses on Cameroon-English as a variety of World English.
In the frame of our lecture series, Mr. Atechi will give a presentation on the topic: The Impact of Immigration within Africa on November 13. This lecture will be given in English.
As a fourth guest lecturer, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Birgit Glorius from Chemnitz University of Technology consented to give a presentation in the frame of our lecture series.
Mrs. Glorius studied Geography with the minor subjects Geology, Political Sciences and Sociology at the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg. In 1997, she received her degree as a qualified geographer from the University of Würzburg and in 2007 she earned her PhD with a magna cum laude.
Since January 2013, Mrs. Glorius has been holding the junior professorship Human Geography of East Central Europe at the University of Chemnitz. As she already worked on projects such as Transnational Migration: The Example of Shuttle Migration of Polish Employees in Germany, we decided to invite her to our lecture series. In the frame of this lecture series, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Glorius will give a presentation with the title Identitätsbildung in der Polnisch-Deutschen Migration on November 19. This lecture will be in given in German that is why we provided only a German title.
As a last guest lecturer we invited Ms Hanifa Massawe from Tanzania to give a presentation in the frame of our lecture series. Currently, Ms Massawe is a PhD student in law at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Chemnitz University of Technology.
In the frame of our lecture series, Ms Massawe will give a presentation on the topic Thorny Immigration Issues in East Africa on November 26. This lecture will be given in English.

Liebe Leserinnen und Leser,
Es dauert nicht mehr lang, bis unsere Vortragsreihe zum Thema Das Eigene im Anderen – Das Andere im Eigenen: Probleme und Chancen von Migration beginnen wird. Im Folgenden möchten wir Ihnen unsere Gastdozenten etwas genauer vorstellen.
Eröffnet wird unsere Vortragsreihe am 30. Oktober von Frau Jacinta Edusei, einer KAAD Stipendiatin, die an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz tätig ist.
Im Jahre 2008 erhielt Frau Edusei ihren Bachelorabschluss in Englisch und Französisch an der Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Nach einer Weiterbildung am Zentrum für Fremdsprachen in Cotonou, Benin (2006-2007), arbeitete Frau Edusei von 2008 bis 2009 als Lehrerassistentin an der Professur für Moderne Sprachen an der KNUST. Im Jahre 2012 erhielt Frau Edusei ihren Masterabschluss in Französischer Sprachwissenschaft und arbeitet seit 2009 als Dozentin auf Teilzeit an der Alliance Française in Kumasi. Gegenwärtig ist Jacinta Edusei als KAAD-Stipendiatin an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz tätig.
Im Rahmen ihrer Forschung interessiert sich Frau Edusei für Themengebiete wie Textanalyse, Kommunikationsfähigkeiten, Sprache und Kultur, sowie Akademisches Schreiben und Pragmatik.

Nach seinem Studium an der Universität Mainz, seiner Promotion dort (1984) und seiner Habilitation an der Universität Mainz (1992), ist Herr Schwend seit dem Jahr 2000 als Professor für Kulturstudien Großbritanniens am Institut für Anglistik an der Universität Leipzig tätig.
Zu seinen Forschungsschwerpunkten gehören unter anderem die Themengebiete Regionalismus in den Britischen Inseln, das Vereinigte Königreich und die zunehmende Integration in Europa, sowie Erinnerungskulturen und Identifikationsprozesse.
Unsere Vortragsreihe wird Prof. Dr. Schwend am 6. November mit einer Präsentation zum Thema Transatlantische Migration – Kulturtransfer in der Literatur unterstützen. Diese Vorlesung wird in deutscher Sprache gehalten.
Ein weiterer Gastdozent, den wir für unsere Vortragsreihe gewinnen konnten, ist Humboldt-Stipendiat Samuel Ngwa Atechi.
Herr Atechi studierte Englisch an der Universität Jaunde I in Kamerun, wo er seinen Bachelor- und Masterabschluss machte. Nach seiner Promotion in Englisch an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz, ging Herr Atechi zurück nach Kamerun, wo er seit 1999 Englisch als Zweit- und Fremdsprache an den Universitäten Jaunde I und Jaunde II unterrichtete.
Seit Januar 2013 ist Herr Atechi an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Professur Englische Sprachwissenschaften tätig. Dabei befasst er sich mit Kamerun-Englisch als Forschungsschwerpunkt.
Unsere Vortragsreihe wird Herr Atechi am 13. November mit einer Präsentation zum Thema: Die Auswirkungen der Einwanderung innerhalb Afrikas unterstützen. Diese Vorlesung wird in englischer Sprache gehalten.
Als vierte Gastdozentin hat sich Jun.-Prof Dr. Birgit Glorius von der Technischen Universität Chemnitz bereit erklärt, eine Präsentation im Rahmen unserer Vortragsreihe zu halten.
Nach dem Studium der Geographie mit den Nebenfächern Geologie, Politische Wissenschaften und Soziologie an der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, machte Frau Glorius 1997 ihren Abschluss zur Diplom-Geographin an der Universität Würzburg und promovierte im Jahr 2007 zum Dr. rer. nat. (magna cum laude).
Seit Januar 2013 ist Frau Glorius Inhaberin der Juniorprofessur Humangeographie Ostmitteleuropas an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz. Ihre Arbeit an Projekten wie Transnationale Migration: Das Beispiel der Pendelmigration Polnischer Arbeitnehmer in Deutschland, hat uns dazu veranlasst, sie zu unserer Vortragsreihe einzuladen. Im Rahmen dieser Vortragsreihe wird Frau Glorius am 19. November einen Vortrag zum Thema Identitätsbildung in der Polnisch-Deutschen Migration halten. Diese Vorlesung wird in deutscher Sprache gegeben.
Die letzte Gastdozentin, die im Rahmen unserer Vortragsreihe eine Präsentation halten wird, ist Frau Hanifa Massawe aus Tansania. Frau Massawe ist gegenwärtig als Doktorandin an der Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der TU Chemnitz tätig.
Im Rahmen unserer Vortragsreihe wird Frau Massawe am 26. November einen Vortrag zum Thema Einwanderung als heikles Thema in Ostafrika halten. Diese Vorlesung wird in englischer Sprache gegeben.
